In this post we will cover some of ways you can cleanse and charge your crystals. This will be especially helpful if you're a spiritual newbie, or are looking to enhance the power of your beautiful crystals.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CLEANSING AND CHARGING?
As you know, crystals absorb their surrounding energies which is where the need to cleanse comes from. By cleansing you essentially clear away the absorbed energy, leaving your crystal reset and rebalanced.
It's important to cleanse the crystals you work with, otherwise the absorbed negative energies will remain present
Once your crystal has been cleansed, it's ready to be charged. You can think of this as 'refuelling' your crystal. Charging gives the crystal an enhanced energy, amplifying its power and the intensity of the intentions and manifestations you set.
WHEN TO CLEANSE & CHARGE
There's no rules that should be followed around when you should cleanse your crystals, but we've included some suggestions below:
- When you purchase a new crystal - we regularly cleanse our crystals but always advise you cleanse it too upon arrival
- If you're using your crystals for healing work, it's advised you cleanse after each session in preparation for the next
- If there has been a major change in your life
- If you wear your crystals on jewellery or in stressful environments, it's recommended you cleanse more often to maintain the maximum benefit
- Whenever your intuition tells you to
CLEANSING & CHARGING METHODS
There are many methods you can use to cleanse your crystals, so choose the way in which suits you but also the crystal you're working with. Certain methods may be unsuitable for some crystals, for example crystals ending in 'ite' such as: Calcite, Fluorite or Apatite shouldn't be submerged in water.
1. During a Full Moon
The Full Moon provides the perfect opportunity to remove the negativity energy your crystals may have absorbed. Place your crystals on the ground outside in the moonlight overnight. This allows the negative energy to be released back to Mother Earth, leaving your crystals grounded and clear of negativity. You can find the Full Moon schedule for 2023 here.
2. Bury them in the ground
Dig a hole a 5-10cm deep in the soil and bury your crystals. Burying them allows them to reconnect to their source, allowing the absorbed energies to be pulled out. You should bury them in a quiet, undisturbed place in your garden. If you don't have access to a garden, a house plant will work too. It's recommended to leave your crystals buried for around 1 week, you should also ensure you remember where you buried them! Once you dig them out, ensure you rinse them and dry thoroughly.
3. Salt Water
Saltwater is an effective cleansing method, but if you don't have access to ocean water you can easily make your own. Use a container, 300ml of water and a teaspoon of salt. If you're cleansing your crystals for the first time, allow them to soak for 8-12 hours, if you cleanse regularly, a 1 hour soak will be sufficient. After this time has passed, rinse them well and ensure they are dried properly.
It is important to check if your crystal is suitable to be submerged in water. Each of our product listing have care instructions pertaining to each individual crystal, however the general rule is any crystal ending in 'ite' such as fluorite, shouldn't be submerged in water.
4. Incense
Incense is a great way to renew the energy surrounding your space, and also cleanse your crystals. To cleanse, light your incense stick, once the smoke begins to flow continuously, blow the flame out and pass each crystal through the smoke. This is also a great opportunity charge your crystal too, by speaking your intention with whatever you're trying to achieve or manifest.
You can view our selection of incense and incense holders here.
5. Selenite
Selenite is considered THE crystal for cleansing. Selenite itself is self-cleansing and it works by purifying and amplifying the energy of surrounding crystals. One of the most common misconceptions in the crystal world is Selenite vs Satin Spar. A lot of people use the term Selenite when describing Satin Spar, but they are actually two separate crystals, albeit both a member of the gypsum family.
Selenite can be recognised by it's transparent look, whereas Satin Spar looks more cloudy and has a 'cat eye' look. We always clearly distinguish between both, so our customers can be confident in what they're buying. Both work very similarly, but we think Selenite is more effective.
To cleanse using Selenite or Satin Spar, you could use a charging plate, bowl, or even keep a tumble amongst the rest of your tumbles. We have a substantial range of Selenite and Satin Spar on our site here.
TO CONCLUDE
Cleansing and charging your crystals is an important part of spiritual self-care. It's important to do these tasks intuitively when you feel it's needed. This process is all about finding the methods you like best, and what feels right to you.
Lots of Love,
